O'HARE DIGITAL COLLECTION: HOME PAGE

The Bensenville Community Public Library has, over the past three decades collected a substantial amount of material dealing with the transformation of Douglas Field from a World War II aircraft manufacturing facility into O'Hare International Airport; the "free world's busiest airport".  Contained within this collection are letters, press releases, governmental resolutions, photographs and other historical documents which may be of interest to individuals trying to understand O'Hare's development into a national transportation center,  its impact on the ecology of northern Illinois and the consequences of the various expansion plans on the quality of life in Chicago's western suburbs.

In addition to serving as a repository for these materials, this web site is designed to:

  1. Preserve the collections' fragile materials by storing them electronically in a database.
  2. Protect the collections original documents by cataloging them and assigning them to files in a secure area.
  3. Provide access to these materials through an on-line connection to the World Wide Web, either at the Bensenville Community Public Library or other web connection.

Funding for the O'Hare Digital Project was provided through a grant by the Illinois State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State, without whose help this project would not have been possible.
